Dragon Sculpture Removed From The City |
|
| |
This year is the start of the first ever, East Kern County self-guided Arts tour. A Dragon sculpted in the form of a Dragon Harp was displayed at the city's Economic Development Corporation building at the entrance of the city. The Dragon was placed there in preparation of the Arts tour. The Tour started April14th on schedule and is to last for one month ending on May 14th 2007. The city was influenced by complaints, and the Dragon was ordered removed April 18. The Secretary for the Economic Development Corporation, Mary Ann LeBlanc, stated that there has been so many complaints about the Dragon that the city was forced to renig on its commitment to allow the Dragon to stay, citing the city has had so many bad things happen to it, it must all be caused by the placement of the Dragon.
The promoters of the Tour California City Movie Studios promptly removed the Dragon. When reached for comments, the promoter and owner of California City Movie Studios, Russell Michael said, "We were compelled to remove the Dragon. We've all seen movies about what happens when the towns' people blame demons and people inflicted with disfigurement for their misfortunes. We don't want them standing outside of our movie studio gates with torchs one evening".
Russell Michael's studios is also promoting The Tortoise Race for Cures and other art related projects. He is also quoted as saying. " This town must be living in the dark ages, as much as I love my adopted City, I'm concerned that they could be influenced by those touting that something as harmless as a sculpture, sculpted from a children's book idea, could cause evil to arrive in their city and cause them such harm".
Russell is also working on a screen play about East Kern's Reefer City and the areas great accomplishments from that point til now, such as the Nation's First commercial Space Port at Mojave Airport. All the records and other achievements that are part of East Kern county and the Mojave area. Including the pioneering spirit of the region.
Russell stated, "I believe in this City. I adopted their name for my movie studio and I'm firmly planted here. I am committed to try and help people understand the great contributions art and artist can make to the development of a city or even the redevelopment of a city such as "New York" And "Los Angeles" that I was able to be a part of for 5 years."
