"California City High School is on track and on budget, " Mojave Unified School District Superintendent, Larry Phelps says. During his frequent tours of the High School, Phelps emphasizes to open the school on August 20.  He additionally points out that there will be no additional tax for the planned bond measure scheduled in September.  "The bond will just extend the existing tax structure, and we very much hope it will pass."  "This is the only way to finish the High School soon."  "With the current budget, the Administration Building, Gymnasium, and Sports Facilities cannot be completed yet."  "So far, we can account for every single penny we spent", Larry Phelps reassures California City voters.

Stafford Declares Trash Day A Smashing Success!
Story And Photos by Phil Cowan, Reporter
Asked to assess the achievement of California City Trash Day 2007, jubilant Chairman David Stafford declared the community effort a “smashing success!” Directing the event from the Aspen Mall parking lot, Stafford exclaimed, “California City takes care of its own!” Standing beside Stafford, co-chairman Buford Land added that more that 250 citizens turned out to clean up California City, including City luminaries Mayor David Evans, Doctor Nick Lessenevitch, Councilwoman Cathy Strong, City Manager William Way, and Jim Quiggle of Tierra del Sol Golf Course. Photographed among the volunteer laborers were Ethyl Pullum and her daughters, Antonea, 8, and Kyla, 6, Vinita and Robert Harshman, teens Bryant Bustamante and Chris Males, Annabelle Roberts in full disguise, and a young woman who identified herself as Kathryn.
Stafford continued, “This will be a bi-annual event, linked with the Neighborhood Watch program,” which he dubbed “Gangbusters.” He estimated the trash collected would fill five forty-yard dumpsters. The city beautifying event, sponsored by EDC and Cal City Chamber of Commerce, culminated with a barbeque for the workers in Central Park.
