  Still Waiting For A Supermarket
Press Release by East Kern News
Three deals to bring business to California City, are lying on the Mayor of California City's desk. Is the Mayor sitting on the Titanic? ASNBC.com is out filming the reactions of those that hear this news for the first time. Their reactions will be broadcast on ASNBC.com in a few days to a week on the show titled "Small Town Politics" being produced by California City Studios Inc. Why are we hurting? Why is our city without an industry? Is our city stuck in a time warp, with no light shining at the end of the tunnel? Two years ago, a majority of us voted for change because, we had 8 years of no change. We got a hick up in the housing market and some new business moved into town. Then something scared the barnacles off our ship and we started down. Then even the hick ups went away, those of us that could swim made it to shore. A form of synergy took place and a few with, helped a few without, and some business were saved. That's America. And to those of you that helped our studio, we are forever indebted.
Now to our city government, we at East Kern News know for a fact that 3 businesses lie in wait of a decision by this city! All three will help us through this down curve and even start to thrust us up. What's the hold up? This City government wants to play hardball, they want to choose which ones first. Mayor Evans, you lead this city. The day this city council, you, or anyone else in this government starts to choose the businesses they feel are best, and only allow those they choose to come in first, is the day this city needs to pick all new leaders. This city needs to bend over backwards and help these businesses!! Get those businesses up and running and quit trying to control our destiny with foolish decisions that are more self serving then community serving. If government teams with industry there is no problem that can't be solved quickly. Let's cash that travel ticket in on the Titanic, because I for one don't believe that boat will float. A supermarket, the entertainment industry, and more housing await us. What are we waiting for?

ELECTION CAMPAIGNS ARE ON THE WAY

California City's temperature is rising these days, and the weather has nothing to do with it! A few candid (some mentioned childish) insinuations at the Tuesday night's council meeting seemed to amuse certain people, but did not amuse others. As the accompanying picture demonstrates. The Ace Hardware billboard sported this clear message today (8-21-08) that Mr. Bill Smith, who is running for councilman in this November 4 election, is on the offensive and will take no prisoners. Mr. Smith, a long time resident and businessman, is known for his previous city involvement as a planning commissioner.
Charles "Chuck" McGuire, another candidate to councilmen Kevin Schafer and  Nick Lessenevitch positions, has already built an elaborate web site to explain his intentions: the site can be viewed at CityofCaliforniaCity.org.
Some candidates for the Mayor's job also stepped forward; Lou Peralta, a local promoter has posted his ambitions on CaliforniaCity.com in the election pages section. Former Mayor Dr. Larry Adams is still low key and seems to be playing "the Hare and the Tortoise", but you never know. Mayor David Evans already sent very professional flyers to the population of California City and looks confident. Gualberto "Wally" Melendez has a few posters on telephone poles around town. There seems to be a late start for candidates Nellie Nichols, Michael Sellard and John Fischer...but is it planned that way? Surprises happen! In any case, this election promises to be interesting, if not totally fascinating. Any candidate who has things to say is welcome to contact me at JP@JeanPaul2008.com and I will do everything in my power to get your story published.

Gov Puts Ca-Bash On Awards Ceremony For Police
Story released by Russell Michael, East Kern News
Governor Schwarzenegger who's never really been a cop, but played one in the movies. And has never really been a hero, though he has depicted them on film, has put the ca-bash on a awards ceremony that gives the Medal of Valor to Police officers who are truly Cops and are real heroes to us that live here in California, namely the California Highway Patrol.
Today East Kern News has learned that do to budget restraints there will be no Awards ceremony this year. How much money does it cost to thank someone for saving lives? East Kern News spoke with Tom Marshall from (the office of public affairs in Sacramento) today about the heroic efforts of CHP Officers involved in an incident at The Mojave Air and Spaceport in Mojave, California, last year on July 26. Mr. Marshall stated, "that due to budget restraints there would be no ceremony this year." There where 8 officers involved in this incident and all of them, according to a memorandum from Lieutenant Commander D.E. Leach of the Highway Patrol Inland division, all 8 officers performed an act of heroism at great risk to their own personal safety and life to rescue four critically injured victims of a large nitrous oxide explosion at the Mojave Air and Spaceport on July 26 of last year. Mr. Marshall, who stated to us in a letter dated March 25 2008, that there were timelines not met and questions unanswered that led to these officers not receiving these medals last year. Mr. Marshall also stated in his letter that these questions have been answered and that he hoped to have a decision in a few weeks from that date. The officers are still waiting their answers.
Budget restraints or not a hero is a hero, and they should be rewarded for their acts of bravery. A phone call to the Officers letting them know their due this award or not would not be out of line here. Courtesy trumps silence. It would seem to us here at East Kern News, that given all we have read and what was told to us that these Officers deserve an answer. The State may not have the money to put together a ceremony, but it is unconscionable for these heroes to set and wait on an answer that merely takes a phone call or letter to resolve. The Officers for the record are: Sergeants Jeffery Baird and Mark McCormack, Officers Jack Barone, Jesse Borone, Stephan Hunsaker, Byron Jobe, Jeffery Nousch, and Roberta Record. We the people of California honor our heroes. One way we honor the California Highway Patrol is through the Medal Of Valor. This Medal of Valor is ours, the people's medal to give away!
We hope the offices that handle these things for us, do it properly and without prejudice or concern for the number of men and women we have to honor every year. We plan to investigate this until we do get an answer for these Officers. We the people of California want to know who are heroes and we deserve the right to thank them properly.
