Last October, it turned out to be one of the most popular open-air family events of the High Desert. This year, the organizers spare no efforts to repeat their success. Preparations for the most anticipated outdoor event of the Greater Antelope Valley are in full swing. The Renaissance Festival is going to take place on the 3rd October weekend (18th and 19th October) in California City’s popular Central Park.
The elaborate show intends to portray 16th century England. Dozens of popular groups from all over California – from comedy magic to belly dancers – are planned to perform at the event. This year, they intend to feature a historical recreation of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. The “Guilde of Sainte Marie”, joined and supported by the “House of Tudor”, returns this years with their Court of Elizabeth I. “It is important to understand history,” says John Blum, the entertainment coordinator of the festival. The Guilde is a non-profit historical reenactment society with members throughout Southern California, offering classes in renaissance dance, costumes, music and lifestyle.
In addition to dozens of shows, the 6th annual Renaissance Festival in California City intends offer an abundance of hearty food, drinks and unique merchandise. “There will be something for anybody,” California City’s Parks and Recreation Department head Michele Hornback points out, “especially for children of all ages. ”The California City Arts Commission, the California City EDC and the California City Parks and Recreation Department, assisted by the Kern County Board of Trade, organize the event.
