Since 1930, the Boys Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through the fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9 and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions. Cub Scouts are organized in dens according to their ages. They work from books in their dens and at home to earn awards and their ranks. They also participate in fun activities such as Pinewood Derbies, family camping, and community service programs. If you would like to sign your boy up or find out more information regarding Cub Scouts, please call 373-8331. Photos provided by Pam Williams.

Troop 110 visits with Laurie and her guide dog puppy after observing the pair at the California City Airport. The two of them along with several other club members taxied in a small plane and even went for a ride. The girls were finishing up the Guide Dogs of America patch program. Some young Girl Scouts and Cub Scout Brandon help out with a food drive to benefit the local community's food pantry located at the Community Church. Troop 176 presents a song at the annual Girl Scout World Thinking Day event at California City Middle School. The event is to remind girls that they are "sisters to every Girl Scout". Not only the girls in their own troop but also sisters to the Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all around the globe.

Pee Wee Soccer
Sponsored by the California City Parks and Recreation Department, the Pee Wee Soccer league has attracted six mixed gender teams of five players each. The children are taught sportsmanship and teamwork, qualities that will serve them throughout their lives. Congratulations to California City for this worthwhile effort to inspire its youth!

Three and four-year-old boys and girls of California City took to the soccer field in California City on Thursday,
September 27, in brightly colored uniforms. The young kickers rambled up and down the miniature field often ignoring the boundaries and chasing the chartreuse ball far afield.
Closely attended by their parents/coaches/referees, the youngsters tasted the thrill of the “Gooooooal!” to the enthusiastic cheers of onlookers. Easily distracted, one player, Mason Holden, hugged his somewhat reluctant teammate, Jaz Barraza, celebrating a goal, as his father looks on. “The object of the league is not winning or losing, but to instill a love for the game in our youth,” explained Coach Tom Holden, Mason’s father.
